Michigan Marching Band

In 2015, I joined the Michigan Marching Band’s in-house marketing staff to lead design. Over my three year tenure in the role, I produced visual marketing material (social media graphics, apparel, posters, presentations, videos, etc.) viewed by donors, alumni, and fans.

While a portion of my work was focused on recruitment and alumni/donor outreach, much of my work was focused on building credibility for the band as it entered the world of digital marketing on social media. This work helped grow the band’s social media follower base to over 70,000 (third largest at the time for a U.S. marching band) with our individual posts often reaching hundreds of thousands of people.

My work strived to distance the band and its members from typical “band nerd” stereotypes. Opting for dynamic photography and strong typefaces paired with Michigan’s iconic maize and blue, I developed visual themes that portrayed the band as I saw it: at the intersection of athleticism and art.
